First impressions matter! I also believe that the home environment should elevate and support our everyday lives. Enter… the importance of the entryway! It should delight and welcome guests in a comfortable and meaningful way. Entries can be small and special or grand and gracious — their job is to set the tone for one’s experience within the rest of the home. It is important we are mindful of how our spaces make us feel. As a designer, I take this task very seriously.
In a recent project we completed, the home was indeed rather grand, designed to accommodate a family that frequently entertained. The incredibly gracious homeowners expressed the importance of the two-story entry making every guest feel enchanted and welcomed upon their arrival. That meant designing it in such a way that it could accommodate circulation for large events and multiple traffic patterns while providing a place to perch and linger as guests arrive and are acquainted.
Shapes and materials can be rather critical in entryways to keep the eye wandering and soul at ease. Below, see some of my selections that aid in this notion.
